Welcome to the Nordic Trail - Part 2!
Welcome back to the Nordic Trail
- For the Nordic Trail - Part 2 (NT2), you will work on two Nordic profiles for the period 1700-1799. As before, you will be assigned a Trail Guide to help you on your journey. This may be the same Trail Guide you worked with in the Nordic Trail - Part 1 or may be a different Trail Guide.
What you will be doing
- You will be sourcing and improving a number of unsourced profiles of people who lived in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden between 1700-1799. This will include writing a biography for each profile.
- The section is for the more experienced members who already have a solid understanding of the basics and may only need a refresher.
- Advanced Sourcing
- Advanced Biography and Editing Tips
- Advanced Biography Writing
- Introduction to Categories
- Categorization Glossary
- Once your Trail Guide has chosen a profile that meets the requirements, they will send the WikiTree ID and a link to the profile. Your Guide will check to make sure it is suitable and set it up for you to work on.
What will be covered
- More on parish registers
- Using other reliable sources, including migration records, court documents, probates, visitations, and citing them correctly
- The old style Julian calendar, feast days and moveable feast days:
- Introduction to reading old Scandinavian handwriting
- Using templates, categories and stickers
- Using named inline citations for repeated use of the same source
- Citing sources from subscription websites, such as Ancestry and ArkivDigital (for paid Swedish primary parish sources)
- The genealogical proof standard
How to Proceed
- Your Trail Guide will choose a profile, set it up and email you with the link to the profile.
- Click through to the profile. Check to make sure that:
- It does not have a profile manager.
- ALL dates must be within the relevant range (1700-1799).
- ALL locations for birth, marriage and death must be in the country you chose.
- There are family links (at least one parent and/or spouse; children are a bonus).
- There is no more than one source.
- Remember, you won't step on any toes, because it's an orphaned profile without a profile manager.
