Instructions to OT2 Team Leaders
- If the Trailer has made an approach without the recommendation of their OT1 Trailblazer or another Leader, check with the OT PC for advice.
- Otherwise, when a request for OT2 comes with a recommendation from their OT1 trailblazer or another leader, move the trailer’s record to the England Orphan Trail Waiting List and Paused List. If a record does not exist, create one.
- If the Trailer has been recommended to start after a break (eg. in 3 months) move their record to the OT "Waiting / Roll Over" list and add their desired start date next to their name.
- if the Trailer is ready to start as soon as possible, move their record to the "OT2 Waiting " list, and let them know by reply email, that they are on the waiting list using Template 8
- Check Trailer has pre-1700 badge. If not, guide them on how to gain it. (Note: The trail used to be pre & post-1700, so some Trailers who completed the "equivalent" of OT1 in the past, may not have undertaken the quiz.)
- Notify all Trailblazers and OT Leadership in Discord Trailblazers channel of new Trailer.
Messages to TRAILBLAZERS
- Pick your Trailer from the top of the Waiting OT2 Rollover list on England Orphan Trail Waiting List and Paused List and add the record beneath your name on the England Orphan Trail Active Trailers Records . If the Rollover list is empty, or if there is nobody in the list ready to start, pick your trailer from the top of the OT2 Waiting List. Inform the OT2 Team Leader (DM on Discord or email) that a new Trailer has started the Trail.
- If you need help, post in Trailblazers channel in Discord or contact a Leader
- Check on your trailer’s progress if you have not heard from them for 1 week. If they are having problems they will likely lose interest and drop out if you are not following up regularly.
- If the Trailer is having difficulty or has many problems, focus on one problem at a time. Choose the most important issue first. Bombarding them with too much information at once can be overwhelming.
- Don’t forget to use the Trailblazers' Tool Kit
Checklists
a) Trailblazer Reminders
- Keep your comments and notes about feedback and your Trailer's progress through the Trail in your record on England Orphan Trail Active Trailers Records. Summarise and record your own notes using relevant info from Discord or Email exchanges. Be succinct and do not include personal information, but you can use a brief explanation such as “health” or “busy”.
- If your Trailer chooses a Profile to work on from the pre-selected Category page, change the category to and request to join the Trusted List from the Profile's Privacy tab.
- If, with your approval, your Trailer chooses a Profile to work on from another source, including the WikiTree+ report, adopt it and add the Do Not Edit template and put this Category on it
- If your Trailer needs to take an extended break (eg. more than 1 month), move their record to the "Paused" list on England Orphan Trail Waiting List and Paused List and inform the OT2 Team Leader.
- If your Trailer decides to drop out, or you haven't heard from them for a month, or a period of time unusual for them, notify the OT2 TL or OT PC.
- Use the tools available in the Trailblazers' Tool Kit, England, Orphan Trail Trailblazer Pages and Trailers Index
- For each profile, add a Hold Request template: changing the date to 6 months ahead, above the Biography heading and below any categories. Also add a == Research Notes == heading with the text This profile is being worked on by a member of the England Project's Orphan Trail Team.
- England, Orphan Trail 2 Current Profiles Category:
- Graduation Sticker: OTII
b) Trailblazer Administration
- Make contact with the Trailer. By now, the Trailer has been around for a while and knows the ropes. You can contact them via Discord if they are active there, otherwise send a Private Message from their Profile. You can use one of the templates from the Tool Kit or your own message. The point of the contact is to introduce yourself to start working together and to select the first Profile to work on.
- Record the date the Trailer started in their record. This is the date you made contact.
- When the Trailer has finished OT2, congratulate them and send code for graduation sticker. OTII
- Record the date of Graduation in the trailer’s record. This is the date you let them know they are finished OT2!
- Let the other Trailblazers and OT Leadership team know your Trailer has graduated with a quick note in the Trailblazer Discord Channel. This is the only announcement required for OT2 Grads.
- If the Trailer provides any feedback, copy and paste their feedback into their record (but delete any personal information)
- Move the trailer’s record from beneath your name on the Active List to the top of the “Archive of Recent Graduates” section of Past Trailers and their Completed Profiles.
c) Trailblazer Recommendations
- At the end of Stage 2 (1500-1599), consider if the Trailer has potential to achieve pre-1500 certification.
- Refer any recommendation you would like to make to the pre-1500 preparation Team Leader who will review your recommendation with you and add the Trailer to the relevant waiting list if appropriate
- If at any time during OT2, your Trailer is not already a Trailblazer but you think they have potential, please recommend this to one of the OT PCs
d) Stage 1: 1600-1699 Profiles
- for all profiles worked on by your trailer - Add the Do Not Edit template if required, add the Orphan Trail 2 Current Profiles Category and adopt the profile or request TL access from your trailer.
- for all profiles - When the Profile is completed or at Graduation, remove the Do Not Edit template and the Orphan Trail 2 Current Profiles Category. Remove yourself from the Profile's Trusted List.

f) Trailer Skills
- You can add skills your Trailer needs to focus on here so you can check them off as they are mastered. An OT2 checklist is being worked on which will be added here when it's finished. In the meantime, you can create your own checklist here if desired. England Project Orphan Trail Part Two
