History
Captain William Seabrook (1773-1836) was the first owner of Oak Island Plantation on Edisto Island, Charleston County, South Carolina.
The house was built c. 1828.[1]
Captain William died in 1836 and willed the plantation to his oldest son William Seabrook Jr. William Jr. died, probably intestate in October 1860.
William Jr.'s son William Edings Seabrook inherited the plantation some time after his father died.[2]
Oak Island sold - John Edward Seabrook would pay William E. and Martha Seabrook for Oak Island (contract 1860), and John Edward Seabrook would hold the premises until default of payment shall be made. Dated 21 Jan 1867.[3]

In the 1850 US Census Slave Schedule, William Seabrook Jr. owned 168 slaves.[4]
In the 1860 US Census Slave Schedules, he owned 175 slaves.[5]
