"The Ogles appear in Lancashire in the middle of the fifteenth century as stewards of the manor of Prescot." John Ogle, esq. (aft. 1406 - bef. 1506), is the patriarch of the Ogles of Lancashire. He is a younger son of Robert Ogle and Matilda "Maude" Grey. His oldest brother was Robert, 1st Baron Ogle.
