Olympics-Team Germany

Background

Germany was one of the 14 nations to compete at the 1st modern Olympic Games in 1896 in Athens, Greece. Germany competed in all the Olympic Games prior to World War II, except for 1920 and 1924. After World War II, Germany was split into the German Democratic Republic (East Germany) and the Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany). In the Olympics of 1956, 1960, and 1964, East and West Germany competed together on one team as the Unified Team of Germany. Beginning in 1972, East and West Germany competed separately. In 1992, Germany became a single, unified team. Germany has been one of the most dominant nations in the Olympics, with eight athletes winning 8 or more medals.[1]

This is an ongoing project to ensure that all Olympians who represented Germany are on Wikitree.
