Omahu Cemetery
Omahu Cemetery is in the Thames Valley at 17 Wharepoa Rd, Hikutaia. It is an old cemetery, but still open for burials. Recently a new cemetery was opened next to the old cemetery. This is Omahu Natural Burials Garden which was intended to be open for burials from 2017 or 2018. It appears that the new cemetery is intended to be incorporated into Omahu Cemetery, as the signage refers to both cemeteries.
The GPS location on Findagrave is currently incorrect (Feb 2019), and leads to a different road in the district.
Notable Interments
Omahu Public Cemetery, Thames-Coromandel District, contains the official war grave of 1 man who served in the New Zealand forces during the First World War. This is Private Tapauri Paraone who died on 5 February 1921.

New Zealand Cemeteries Team
This page is maintained by the New Zealand Cemeteries Team, who are part of the Global Cemeteries Project (and the Oceania Cemeteries Team). The aim is is to document the final resting place of those buried in New Zealand, to ensure that each cemetery has its own free-space page, which is linked to the category structure for Global Cemeteries, and that those buried in them are also gathered in the correct category.
- Currently there are 4 profiles listed on Wikitree for this cemetery, which is well short of the number of interments. Findagrave has 648 entries, and Billion Graves has 264. Irwin-2099 21:18, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
The overall progress of this endeavour will be found on the NZ Cemeteries Team Progress page.
