The Steam ship ORIENT made numerous Voyages to the Australian colonies in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries.
The First steamer designed for the Australian Service for mail, and was also the first to fulfill the Admiralty requirements for an auxilliary merchant cruiser in war. Built by John Elder & Co., Glasgow, for the Orient Steam Navigation Company in 1879 and was listed as 5,386 ton.
