The Jacka Name Study began in August 2018. Originally individuals were using the following parameters [on WikiTree known as categories] :

1. The parish in Cornwall that the family comes from based on birth information.
2. The Broad Occupation types for each Jacka family member
a. Working the land (either as labourers or farmers)
b. Working on the sea (either as a sailor, seaman, mariner, or seafarer)
c. Working in the trades in occupations relating to the trades (such as blacksmiths, whitesmiths, stonemasons, and other artisans).
d. Working in the mines in occupations relating to the mining industry in any capacity (eg. as labourers or owners).
e occupations not listed in the above categories

The above categorisation was based on two theories that suggest that by using naming patterns, geography and occupations as defining principles various distinct Jacka families can be identified. To read more about this click here.

It had also been suggested that family groupings can also be further divided by surname spelling - ending either and “a” or an "o", however as can been seen from the children of John Jacka & Elizabeth Keigwin spelling variation may not be as significant as previously thought and may have to do more with the minister or clerk recording the event. This may be something that this One-Name Study may want to come back and revisit and add the surname spelling in as an additional category if there does seem to be some type of significant pattern emerging. This research is still ongoing, however, the project has expanded more than those who born in Cornwall, England see the home page for more details see Jacka Name Study
