Ormond Plantation was built by Pierre d'Trepagnier on a Spanish land grant, however he didn't name it. The next owner Richard Butler named it after his ancestral homeland, Castle Ormond. In 1819 Samuel McCutcheon bought the property. Another story says his wife, Rebecca Butler, inherited it from her brother Richard. It was put up for public auction twice after the Civil War.
