This research page is part of the Ostermann Name Study. It traces Ostermann family branches which originated in Germany and emigrated to the United States. The division into locations in Germany follows the modern federal state division, and the historical locations are only mentioned where necessary.

Hamburg
The following Ostermann emigrants from Hamburg have been found via FamilySearch and/or FindAGrave:
- Peter H. Ostermann (1868-1924) to Minnesota, then South Dakota
Lower Saxony
The family book on "Auswanderer des Kreises Uelzen", i.e. Emigrants from the District of Uelzen in the Lüneburger Heide, lists the following individuals with LNAB Ostermann who were born in Germany and died in the United States:
- Catharine Margarethe (Ostermann) Licht (1827-1909), also her younger brother Johann Heinrich, to Illinois
- Catharine Margarethe Magdalena Ostermann (1850-1923) to Illinois
- Catharine Marie Wilhelmine Ostermann (1867-1941) to Iowa
- Johann Heinrich Christian Ostermann (1873-1944) to Iowa
- Johann Heinrich Ostermann (1832-1905) to Kansas
- Johann Heinrich Ostermann (1863-1899) to Iowa
- Wilhelm Georg Ostermann (1865-1945) to Iowa
All of these descend from the Ostermann farm holders at Wettenbostel.
Other Ostermann emigrants from other districts in what is now Lower Saxony include:
- Peter Habben Ostermann (1841-1923) from Aurich District to Illinois
- three siblings: Maria Angela (Ostermann) Jansen (1843-1926), Johann Lambert "John" Ostermann (1847-1916), Gerhard Heinrich "Henry" Ostermann (1850-1932) from Emsland District to Illinois, later Texas
- Heinrich Ostermann (1841-1923) from Hoya District to New York (probably only port of entry)
- Dirk Heyen Martin Osterman(n) (1815-1885) from Leer District to Illinois
- Dorothea Elisabeth Ostermann (1889-1963) from Meppen District to Iowa
- Katharina Ostermann (born 1830), later Wellenkötter, from Osnabrück District to Illinois
- Wilhelm Östermann/Ostermann (born 1837) from Osnabrück District to Illinois
Rhineland-Palatinate
Ostermann emigrants from what is now Rhineland-Palatinate include the following:
- Anna Marie (Ostermann) Plein (1826-1897) to Michigan
Schleswig-Holstein
Ostermann emigrants from what is now Schleswig-Holstein include the following:
- Joachim Ostermann (1818-1892) and his daughter Johanna Dorothea (1843-1889), later Hartwig, to Illinois
- Theodor Ostermann (1865-1943) to California
