Research Notes: Notes for John Stewart MCNAMARA: John Stewart McNamara was husband of Lavinia(Lovey) Lake.He was an officer in the Revolutionary War.He was a man of means and influence and was bondsman for Capt. Henry Lake on bond for 10,000 Pounds,current money,as high Sheriff, Dorchester County, 1797.Colonel McNamara died July 8,l823 at 68 yrs of age.

Research of children is not conclusive; the data is from other McNamara family researchers on the internet and I found quite a few errors. I believe that Rhoda Lake (above) is Rhoda Letitia McNamara and she married Slater T. Cowart of Virginia and is buried there. There is another Slater Cowart buried in the Cowart Family Cemetery in Virginia, but this one appears to be a nephew of Slater T. If anyone has additional or correct information, please send it to me and I will correct this page.

Notes

Apparently when John Stewart McNamara and Lavina Lovey Lake had another baby girl in 1813 they named her after her deceased sister who died in 1808. This is not an uncommon practice.

All records through DAR and SAR has Lovey's name = Lavina "Lovey" Lake. The Lovey might be in nickname for Letitia but haven't found any reference to Letitia in any documents.

Wife of Edward Staplefort; on 15 FEB 1805 STAPLEFORT, Edward married McNAMARA, Zepporah. Daughter of Col John Stewart and Letitia "Lovey" LAKE McNamara.
