CHISM, PATRICK CHARLES

October 15, 1952 to July 1, 2006

Our dear friend, uncle, brother, father and husband, Pat Chism, went home to be with his Lord after suffering from pancreatic cancer for over a year. He went peacefully in his home surrounded by family and friends.

He was a founder and co-owner of Chism Brothers Painting. Pat was a second generation San Diegan. His mother, Lillian Eugenia (Lyman) Chism, was born on the family farm just north of what is now Batiquitos Lagoon in Encinitas. His father, Milton Carroll Chism, came to San Diego from Memphis, TN during the Depression. Pat grew up in Mission Hills, attended school at Grant and Roosevelt, and graduated from San Diego High in 1970. After high school he worked in the construction and painting business. It was during that time that he met the love of his life, Edna Mae Cordivin. They were married in 1978 and settled in the Chula Vista area. They were charter members of the Paseo del Rey Church which was such a wonderful help to the family during their trial and where they remained active to the present.

Pat served an enlistment in the U.S. Navy on the carrier Enterprise and was honorably discharged in 1975.

Late in 1982, Pat joined his brother Michael in starting their paint contracting business. He was a very fine craftsman having learned the trade from his father. More importantly, Pat was a genuinely friendly, caring, and beloved man. His customers remember him as he often humbly introduced himself: "Pat the Painter." He often marveled that he could work in such fine homes for such wonderful customers.

Pat was a devoted husband and father. He will be greatly missed by his wife Edna; four children: daughters Sarah, Amy Bernal (Tony), and sons Michael, 21, and Matthew, 17. He is also survived by five siblings: Michael, Nancy Brandt (Ernie) of Sand Point, ID, Peggy, John, and Bonney Chism-Irwin all of La Mesa. Nieces and nephews include Emily Weld (Andy); David (Joli) Chism; Curtis Chism; Coral Irwin; Erin, Katie, Jennifer and Amy Brandt; grand-nephews Joel Patrick Chism and Michael Weld along with numerous cousins, in-laws and "out-laws"
