Surnames/tags: PGM Puritan Great Migration Project
The PGM Project uses the following Categories to track issues with project Profiles. Categories may also be accessed through the parent category page:
- This category is being used by PGM Beyond New England sub project to compile those profiles that need attention.
- This category is a Puritan Great Migration Project maintenance category to be used on profiles with no biographies, inadequate biographies, and/or biographies that appear to contain copy/pasted text, and require cleanup.
- To be considered complete, biographies need to be comprehensive, accurate, well organized, with inline sources from reliable sources (see this link for currently approved sources: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Puritan_Great_Migration_Project_Reliable_Sources), and include original text (or summarized from relevant sources).
- To be used on profiles that need to have the formatting of the biography improved due to things such as headings, appearance, etc.
- To be used on profiles that need to have 'gedcom junk' removed and basic formatting/cleanup done.
- (formerly called Needs Footnotes) To be used on profiles that have sources and a bio already, but "need inline citations" to associate the sources with the facts.
- To be used on profiles that need to have multiple biographies merged into one cohesive biography.
- (formerly called Needs Relationship Review) To be used on profiles that need to have a relationship reviewed in a week to a month. Most of these will need to have a parent, spouse, or child disconnected. Comments to that effect should be placed on both profiles involved, although the category only needs to go on one profile.
- To be used on unsourced profiles, profiles with inadequate sourcing (eg. Ancestry or FamilySearch trees), profiles that need more research, or that need further research to clarify items and/or relationships.
- This category contains unsourced profiles under the scope of the Puritan Great Migration Project.
Feedback on this, please
[I've rearranged the above into the groups below to compare similarities to see if that helps us look at categories differently.]
[these are self-explanatory and stand alone]
- This category is being used by PGM Beyond New England sub project to compile those profiles that need attention.
- (formerly called Needs Relationship Review) To be used on profiles that need to have a relationship reviewed in a week to a month. [this should be about bios that have very little in them]
- This category is a Puritan Great Migration Project maintenance category to be used on profiles with little to no biographies and need expanding.
[this is a little ambiguous and really fits with both the "Needs Biography" and "Unsourced Profiles"; nearly every profile could have "needs research" applied to it]
- To be used on unsourced profiles, profiles with inadequate sourcing (eg. Ancestry or FamilySearch trees), profiles that need more research, or that need further research to clarify items and/or relationships.
[these are for bios that need sourcing work]
- This category contains unsourced profiles under the scope of the Puritan Great Migration Project.
- (formerly called Needs Footnotes) To be used on profiles that have sources and a bio already, but "need inline citations" to associate the sources with the facts.
[these are all about cleaning/formatting; they may or may not be bloated bios]
- To be used on profiles that need to have the formatting of the biography improved due to things such as headings, appearance, etc.
- To be used on profiles that need to have 'gedcom junk' removed and basic formatting/cleanup done.
- To be used on profiles that need to have multiple biographies merged into one cohesive biography.
[Proposed new categories]
[this is often associated with bloated bios, but not always]
- Great Migration Project, Excessive Copying or maybe Great Migration Project Needs Trimming or Great Migration Project, Plagiarism Check or something pithy, yet witty
- To be used on profiles that contain long excerpts (quoted or not) or mainly relies on excerpts of any length.
- Biographies need to be original text (or summarized from relevant sources). Biographies with excessive copying/pasting are against WikiTree's policy (see WikiTree's position on Copying Text).
[notables typically have more info available and those looking at the notables rightly expect them to have more info]
- Great Migration Project Needs Expanded Bio
- To be used on profiles that currently meet the minimum requirements for a complete biography, but, based on available information, more can be added.

I am unsure of the best name to give this proposed category, as I wouldn't want it used to suggest that a profile be come PGM designated, rather, for profiles already designated PGM that should be reviewed and likely removed from PGM.
Question: Does the system generate an error message if someone places a PGM category on a profile not PGM designated?

Re Long Biographies (which often contain cut/paste), there is a Long Profiles category that isn't PGM specific. I haven't looked at it in awhile. We would want to say when to use the non-PGM Long Profiles Category (may not be the exact name) vs when to use PGM Needs Text Trimming (or whatever we call it).
For the Expanded Bio, to avoid having it added to almost every profile, we should identify some examples of when we'd use it or not use it so people are clear. One example (applies to quite a few profiles) might be where the Anderson Directory is referenced, but Anderson's citations don't appear to have been reviewed and relevant info added to the bio.
