Penola War Memorial
Penola War Memorial is a monument dedicated to the memory of residents from the Penola District Council area, including Glenroy, Comaum, Coonawarra, Nangwarry, and Kalangadoo, who died in the Boer War, The Great War, World War II and the Vietnam War. [1] [2]
History
Penola War Memorial was erected in 1927 in memory of men from the district who died in The Great War. [3] The monument was originally located at the junction of Mount Gambier and Casterton roads, but was relocated to the current position in Penola War Memorial Park on Church Street (Lat: -37.377453, Long: 140.837061)[1] in about 1934. [2]
In 1954 was fully rejuvenated and updated to include service men from World War II. [4]
At some other time, one name from the Boer War and another from the Vietnam War were added.
