About the Project

The genealogy website of my grandfather

My grandfather, Herman Perquin, dedicated his entire life to creating a family tree of the Perquin family. This is his life's work. My father, Reinier Perquin, helped him in this process. Unfortunately, my father has passed away in 2022 and my grandfather has passed away in 2024. It is my desire to take over the baton.

Hopefully someday I will manage to solve the big question: what is the origin of our ancestor Jean Perquin and who were his parents?

Surname History

Main page: History of the Perquin Family.

The name Perquin first appears in the Netherlands in 1627. In that year, a Jean Perquin bought some houses on the Nonnenveld in Breda and settled there permanently with his wife and three children. Jean is the oldest known Dutch ancestor. From Breda, Jean's descendants spread throughout the province of North Brabant. Although much can still be found about Jean and his descendants under the names Perquin, Parquin, Perquyn, Perkin and Parkin in the Breda archives, his origins are still unknown. As early as the 17th century, the names Perquin, Pirquin, Pierquin and Parquin can be found in northeastern France.

Unfortunately, no amateur genealogist has yet been found who could help make use of the old deeds of notaries and aldermen as well. In villages east of Thionville, France, about 70 persons with the surname Perquin have been found in the period 1650-1850, but no baptismal, marriage and burial records prior to 1650 have been preserved there. It is possible that research in the 1590-1650 notarial archives can provide answers.
