History
Peter's Point Plantation[1] is located on Edisto Island in Charleston County, South Carolina.[2] The home on the plantation is said to be of historic significance, and built in 1840 by Isaac Jenkins Mikell.[3][4] According to Mikell's son, Isaac "Jenkins" Mikell, there were orange groves, figs, pomegranates, and cedar trees trimmed into fantastic shapes by a master hand.[5] Peter's Point Plantation was said to have been, in 1860, one of the worlds largest "Sea Island Cotton" producers on its 2200 acres.[3][6]
Today the Edisto Island Open Land Trust now owns a conservation easement on the Peter's Point property.[7]
Owners
Peter's Point Plantation was in the Jenkins family early in the history of Edisto Island. It was owned by the Jenkins family and then through marriage to the Mikell family.[8]
- John Jenkins (1685-1739) (researching him as owner)[9]
- Christopher Jenkins (aft1716-1760) (researching him as owner)[10] For more information please see Slaves of Christopher Jenkins
- Christopher Jenkins (1738-1774) willed his plantation to his son Christopher Jenkins.[11][12] For more information please see Slaves of Christopher Jenkins
- Christopher Jenkins (1769-1794), the property was listed in his will in and seen in his probate papers after his decease.[13] [14] For more information please see the Slaves of Christopher Jenkins page.
- Christopher Jenkins (1790-1830) received this property from his father. A deed/mortgage dated 1814 between Jenkins and William Seabrook about Peter's Point.[15] For more information please see the Slaves of Christopher Jenkins page.
A deed found dated 1822 talks about Peter's Point, but the deed is very difficult to read. It is between Christopher Jenkins and from Ephraim Mikell, possibly a loan using the plantation as mortgage?[16]
- Ephraim Mikell (1774-1838) may have received Peter's Point Plantation as part of one of the above mortgages, or through his marriage to Providence Jenkins. The plantation is listed in his will, bequeathed to his son Isaac Jenkins Mikell. For more information please see the Slaves of Ephraim Mikell page.
- Isaac Jenkins Mikell (1808-1881)
- J. Jenkins Mikell[17] Due to various handwriting styles in the 1800's this is probably an error in transcription, and should read I. Jenkins Mikell.
Slaves
Please see the individual Slave Pages noted above for more information about the slaves that lived on this plantation.

Cemetery
There is a Cemetery at Peter's Point. Not sure if it is on the old plantation site, or just near it.
