The goal of this project is to Discover the Origins of Philippe Castaing (1720's) and Francoise Olivier the parents of Jean-Baptiste Castaing

Right now this project just has one member, me. I am Michael Castagne.

My Name is Michael Castagne and I'm a direct descendant of Jean-Baptiste Castaing. As of Feb 2018, I have spent 2 years in extensive research into the origins of Jean and his father, Philippe Castaing and mother, Francoise Olivier. As of 2018, this couple still represents the brick wall in our lineage, and I have created this page to serve as a blank space to jot down some thoughts as to our Family's beginnings/origines in Canada.

As of now, our family represents a small family of about 100-200 individuals of immediate ancestors and derived cousins. Our legacy, as a Tree, remains a historically thin root, yet penetrates deep in importance and significance in Canadian history.

Notables in our family include: Philippe Castagne, Associate of the Societe of the 21, and Co-Founder of Bagotville, Quebec. Andre Castagne, Navigator of the Swordfish 1867 and reluctant Hero.

Hopefully this page may serve as a board of stray thoughts, a collection of hints to solve the puzzle. Hopefully, this finds our various family members happy and healthy.

What we know: 1) Jean Baptist was born to "Philippe Castaing" and "Francoise Oliver" around 1744. (place?) death is recorded as 1812, Baie-Saint-Paul. 2) Castaings were already active in Canada. (Antoine Castiang, Merchant of Louisbourg, N.S.) 3) 2 active sea captains at the time: Francois Castaing and his brother Philippe Castaing. "Merchants of bordeaux" - weapons, guns, shingles, wine...possibly involved in slave trades.
