The Philippines
The Philippines, officially the Republic of the Philippines, is an archipelagic country in Southeast Asia. In the western Pacific Ocean, it consists of 7,641 islands, with a total area of 300,000 square kilometers, which are broadly categorized in three main geographical divisions from north to south: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
Philippines Location Category Structure
The administrative divisions of the Philippines are as follows:
- 17 regions
- 82 provinces
- 146 cities
- 1488 municipalities
- 42,036 barangays (the smallest administrative division in the Philippines and is the native Filipino term for a village, district, or ward)
Naming convention for regions: [[Category:Region, Philippines]]
- Example: [[Category:Central Luzon, Philippines]]
Naming convention for provinces: [[Category:Province, Region]]
- Example: [[Category:Nueva Ecija, Central Luzon]]
Naming convention for municipalities/cities: [[Category:City/municipality, Province]]
- Example: [[Category:San Jose, Nueva Ecija]]
Notes
1. Some highly urbanized cities, such as Taguig, have no province. The naming scheme would need to be adapted in such cases, to [[Category:City, Philippines]].
Examples: [[Category:Manila, Philippines]], [[Category:Taguig, Philippines]]
2. For our purposes, the baranguay units may be too small to use as a location category if it is a ward or district of a municipality. A village should probably be named in the same manner as a municipality or city.
