Album History
The original owner of this deteriorating antique album is unknown, but one picture may be of Anna Marie Wilhelmine (Gerlach) Homiller (1873-1938) and another of her sister Ella (Gerlach) Greeve. The album was in the possession of Anna's daughter, Dorothy Ella (Homiller) Burnside, until her death in 1998 and subsequently passed down two generations. The photos were digitized in 2023.
Help identifying pictures would be greatly appreciated. Custodian of these pictures is Barbara (Tillman) Ruh (Apr 2023).
Photo Details
There are 65 photos.
- Photos 1 and 2 were loose in the front of the album.
- 15 of the photos were cabinet cards, 4-1/2″ x 6-1/2″, Photo 2 was an irregular size, and the rest were cartes-de-visites (CDVs), 2-1/2″ x 4″, or smaller. 7 of the CDVs were on glass.
- The date "1866" was written on the back of Photos 7 and 8.
- 45 photos list photographers: 1 in Harrisburg PA, 1 in Minneapolis MN, 1 in NY, 38 in Philadelphia PA, 2 in Poughkeepsie NY, and 1 in Wilmington DE. The Philadelphia photographers include: 7 by Rhoads, 7 by Schreiber, 4 by Gerlach & Fromhagen, 3 by Gilbert, and 3 by Hendrickson.
- The pictures are probably from 1860-1900.

People
Most photos are unidentified.
- The person in Photo 41 may be of Anna Marie Wilhelmine (Gerlach) Homiller (1873-1938).[1] The girl in the picture appears to be about 5 years old. Since Anna was born on 12 April 1873; the picture may be from about 1878.
- The person in Photo 43, the photo below 41 in the album, bears similarity to a photograph that had been identified as Ella (Gerlach) Greeve, the sister of Anna Gerlach.[1]
