This collection of photos came from Joseph and Martha (Dean) Jackson and are mostly of family and relatives with occasional friends mixed in as well. Their son, William, received the collection and he identified the people and wrote names on the backs of the photos. As a result there are very few people that haven’t been identified.

The oldest photos are in a book of tintypes of the Edward and Elizabeth Jackson family from around 1860. There are also photos of the Jackson relatives through the early 1900’s who lived in the Phoenix and Clay area of New York State.

The majority of the photos in the collection are of Martha’s Dean relatives. Martha’s parents and most of her siblings moved to California around 1870. Over time they sent many photos of themselves and their descendants to Martha. The flow of photos from California continued until around Martha’s death in 1923.
