Photo Album for Anders Jensen

This is a little album that measures 6 3/4 inches wide by 4 5/8 inches high (17cm x 12 cm). It contains ten pages, which eight are photographs with a descriptive verse written about each image.

Anders Jensen received the album on his 80th birthday from B. B. in 1953. Currently, it is not known who B. B. is. No one in the immediate family have those initials. Is it possible B. B. is a nickname for his wife, or another family member? Or is B. B. a friend, a group of friends, or perhaps his børnebørn (grandchildren)?''

This book was found amongst Ole Nygaard Jensen's possessions. He is the grandson of Anders. Ole always got along with, and greatly admired his grandfather. How he came to possess this item is unknown. When Ole moved to a nursing home, it was passed to me, his daughter, K Jensen.

The images are of Anders, his wife, Anna, and two children, Oluf and Signe, at his home in Gammel Ølstykke, Ølstykke Parish. The house (3 Kildegårdsvej) was built on ‘Kildegaard’ approximately 500 meters from the main house and barns.

I have translated the verses from Danish to English. In Danish the verses sweetly rhyme. Not so in English, but the sentiment remains. (If you are Danish, and notice any mistakes in my translations, please inform me of the corrections - especially page 6, since the meaning is lost to me.)

You must build your house on the solid foundation of the Word, so the wall is strong during stormy weather.

Here is the house that you yourselves have built, and where you have been enjoying yourself for many years to hygge.

In the heat of the summer, the warmth of Hygge time when you have finished your afternoon nap

Behind these windows one sleeps and rests, when the stars in the night sky smile.

From this picture you understand that it can happen, that she could leave you, however, she does not have peace in her mind, because she is inside with him again.

Here we see them again in the sunny place, they stand and rejoice at the Rose bed.

In the same place you see them again, on the left Son, on the right Daughter.

Here in the garage is the crew, Kyllingegaard [chicken coop] is on the top floor.

I wonder if the man is coming home, because the food is ready to be served.

What is 'Hygge'?

There is no word for the Danish word 'hygge'. It is a style of comfort, a feeling of contentment.
