Piskorowice

From Wikipedia:

Piskorowice [pʲiskɔrɔˈvʲit͡sɛ] (Ukrainian: Пискоровичі, Pyskorovychi) can be located in the administrative district of Gmina Leżajsk, within Leżajsk County, Subcarpathian Voivodeship (Województwo Podkarpackie), in south-eastern Poland.

  • The first traces of human presence in these areas date back to 10-8 thousand years ago. years B.C. People inhabited higher areas and strengthened by nature. They built huts, and later dug dugouts covered with a roof. In the 7th - 6th centuries BC. this is the period of the Przeworsk culture. At the beginning of the 7th century, the tribe of Lechites settled in Lędzia.
  • It is assumed that the village existed as a settlement already in the times of the principality of Halicko-Włodzimierz, which is evidenced by the strong Orthodox faith and a large number of Ruthenians who came from the east at the beginning of the 13th century and settled in ethnic Polish lands (Lachów).
  • According to Włodzimierz Kubijowicz, in 1939, 2,740 people lived in Piskorowice (including 2,340 Ukrainians, 340 Poles and 60 Jews), 130 Poles were Ukrainian-speaking.
  • On April 18, 1945, the Polish partisan unit of "Wołyniak" (Józef Zadzierski), together with other NOW partisan units disguised in the uniforms of the Polish Army, contrary to the Hague conventions, committed a pacification of the village, during which they murdered one hundred and several dozen people of Ukrainian nationality staying overnight at the local school. Among the victims were also women and children. They were also killed in the village and in the fields by the San River. The Ukrainians did not defend themselves, because the UPA did not operate in this area, and Piskorowice did not have self-defense.
  • In Ukrainian Pyskorovychy, on the night of April 17 to April 18, 1945, armed Polish units from the department of the People's Military Union under the leadership of Józef Zadzerski (pseudonym "Volynyak") shot almost 200 (according to Ukrainian sources - 358) in the premises of the school without any reason. Ukrainians from Pyskorovych and surrounding villages, who, under the protection of several Red Army soldiers, were waiting here for transport for resettlement to other regions of the Ukrainian SSR[3]. A total of 1,344 citizens of Ukrainian nationality from Pyskorovych and its suburbs became victims of underground Polish military units in 1944–1947, and Poles loyal to Ukrainians were also killed.[1]
  • In the village of Piskorovichi, there are many monuments to the victims of banditry by Poles in the cemetery, where 5-10 people are buried, and on one grave there is an inscription that 386 Ukrainians who were killed in 1945 are buried here. The monument was erected by Ukrainians of Canada. And how many people went down the Xiang River, who were waiting for armed bandits near the Lezhaisk crossing, who were returning home from Germany and other places. The Xiang River was red with human blood. In the village of Piskorovichi, people were gathered at the school for resettlement. In the evening, security from the NKVD was called to Yaroslavl, and a militia of 10,000 Poles under the leadership of a Pole with the nicknames "Volynyak" and "Kudlaty" surrounded all the villages along the Xiang River and made the final action. I have no information about the rest of the villages, but I am writing only about Piskorovichi because my mother's sister and brother, Mykhailina Bazilevichi and Pavlo, were killed there (Mykhailina was a widow, and Pavlo ran away in the field near the village, and crows pecked at his body for several days). People got lost on the second floor of the school so tightly that the corpses could not be pulled out afterwards. All this was suppressed, and they were shot from below from the first floor with automatic weapons. Blood flowed down the walls, and the first floor was covered in blood.
  • In the village Pyskorovichi next to the village. Pavlokom (366 victims), p. Gorayets (198 victims), village Berezka (180 victims), village Malkovichi (154 victims), and the village of Bakhiv (90 victims) was one of the largest number of civilians killed by Polish armed groups during the ethnocide of Ukrainians in 1943-1948.
  • Some Ukrainians were voluntarily and forcibly evicted to the USSR (1,365 people — 301 families). The rest of the Ukrainians were ethnically cleansed in 1947 during Operation "Visula" and were deported to post-German lands in the western and northern parts of the Polish state, which belonged to Germany until 1945.
