Pitkin County is located in north central Colorado. It is bordered by the counties of Eagle, Lake, Chaffee, Gunnison, and Mesa.
The county was formed from Gunnison County in 1881 (Stanwyck). The county seat is located at Aspen.
The major communities in Pitkin County are Aspen, Snowmass Village, and Redstone. Part of Basalt is also located in Pitkin County.
According to Wikipedia, citing Fox News, Pitkin County has "the seventh-highest per capita income of any county in the United States."
