History
The name Point of Pines Plantation has long history going back as far back as Paul Grimball who came to Edisto Island in 1682.Grant of 1590 acres to Paul Grimball for the sum of £31.16, in 1683.[1][2][3]
Plantation Owners
- Paul Grimball (1630-1697)[4][5][6][7][8][9]
- Thomas Grimball (1675 - 1723), Paul's son, recorded ownership in 1722[4][10]
- Joshua Grimball (1707 - 1757), son of Thomas Grimball, recorded ownership in 1751[4][11]
- Ralph Bailey (1750-1798) owned Point of Pines by 1789, but 400 acres of the property had been sold to James Clark.[4] Ralph named Point of Pines Plantation in his 1798 will, passing it to his wife Mary Bailey.[12]
- Henry Bailey (1782-1828) - Henry Bailey, son of Ralph Bailey, died in 1828. In his will he gives his residence plantation to his son Charles Bailey.[13]
- Charles Joseph Bailey (1824-1854) - Charles J. Bailey, son of Henry Bailey, owned 2 adjoining plantations that grew Cotton:[4][14] Point of Pines Plantation[15][16] and the Charles "Bailey's Plantation". Charles Bailey's probate sale at Point of Pines[17]

- Paul Grimball - There was one slave named in the will of Paul Grimball. Her name was Ginny and she was to go to Grimball's widow after his death.[9]
- Thomas Grimball - There is one slave named in the will of Thomas Grimball in 1722.[19] Dafny to wife Sarah, if Sarah marries again Dafny gets to be free and no longer a slave. According to the will Dafny would only be a slave through his wife's widowhood and no longer.
