This section shows an alphabetical listing of police officers who had served prior to the issue of numbers in 1898.
NOTE: The numbering system commenced in March 1898. Those then currently in the Force who were below rank of Sub-Inspector received numbers. The then current Commissioned Officers were not allocated numbers. Subsequently all those joining received a regimental number. . to 1961
From 1829 to 1853 police were employed on a local "as needed" basis
From 1853 foot and mounted police were formed into a unified police force
In 1876 the Imperial Water Police became part of the mainstream force.
