History

This cemetery known as "Potter's Field" was the final resting place for the residents of the Poor Farm. The last burial was in 1959. There are many headstones which are small and do not have a name on them. Most of the rest of the headstones just have a name with first initial and last name. Less than a handful have actual dates inscribed on the headstone.

The Stephenson County Poor Farm was established in 1853 to house and provide work for the indigent.
