Portchester Castle

Portchester Castle in a medieval castle on the shore of Portsmouth Harbour, built within the the walls of a 3rd Century Roman fort.

William Pont de l'Arche established an Augustinian Priory at the Castle in 1128 and St Mary's Church was built soon afterwards.

In 1632 the Castle was bought from Charles I by Sir William Uvedale only to be garrisoned by Parliamentary forces in 1644.
