Relationships in Need of Source Validation
- John Gilbert (abt.1754-aft.1829) and Sarah (Tew) Gilbert (abt.1760-abt.1807) - Sarah is allegedly a daughter of Robert Tew (bef.1720-abt.1787) and Eliza (Cameron) Tew, another relationship that is unconfirmed by a source. Robert's death is shown as 1787 by most reports (for example: Bentley, Thelma Tew. The Family of John Adam Tew and Related Branches: Baggett, Butler, Eppes, Fisher, Fowler, Naylor, Royal. 6 Jun 1992. Sampson, North Carolina: Author. Courtesy of Sampson County Historical Society.), but the next Ancestry Hint raises the question - might he have died after the 1790 census? (It does state residence date of 1783, nevertheless, which is unusual.)
- Hint from Ancestry that is yet to be reproduced from source on FamilySearch: North Carolina, U.S., Compiled Census and Census Substitutes Index, 1790-1890. Name: Robert Tew, Residence: 1783 township (redacted), Duplin County, NC. Note that this census may have a count of females, which could be extremely helpful, though most of the children would have married well before 1790.

Bates and Fleming Families Quaker Monthly Meeting Placement: Add Scimino as a MM Category?
See: Hinshaw, William Wade; Marshall, Thomas Worth, ed.; & Brown, Douglas Summers. Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy. Vol. VI: "Henrico Monthly Meeting." 1950. Ann Arbor, Michigan: Edwards Brothers, Inc.
Virginia Yearly Meeting: The first surviving record of a session of the Yearly Meeting is dated 1702, the seventh month... included were John Bates and James Bates.
... [monthly meetings] known to have existed at this time [circa 1702] and are named else where are: Curles (same as Henrico) and the ancient Warwick - York Monthly Meetings...
In a letter, bearing the same date as the 1702 minutes of the yearly meeting, it is discovered that ... are appointed delegates to the yearly meeting 'for the monthly meeting belonging to Curles in James River, and for the monthly meeting to York and Warek (sic) (Warwick) Counties there is appoynted John Bates (Bates) and..."
Subheading: Virginia Yearly Meeting (p. 12-13)
"In 1698 and again in 1705 the famed minister, Thomas Story, visited extensively in this area, and from his Journal we can draw information concerting Quakers in this area. First we find a number of homes in which he held meetings; they were:... John Bates' at Scimino, York County..." #24/1063-#25/1064
"And now, here follows a list of persons known to have been Quakers:... John Bates and family of Scimino;... James Bates of Scimino.
Perhaps the most influencial family among the early converts above named was that of Bates. Through the next two and a half centurees they were to prove strong members of the Society and furnish many members from their family roster. Story's account of the conversion of James Bates and his wife is most winsome.
