This page is hub for sharing information about the "first families of PEI", with links to help your research. Some other useful links include:

The first ancestors who came to PEI provide important connections between later PEI residents and the world tree. By finding, connecting, creating and improving sourced profiles for the oldest family members, you can help create a useful foundation for WikiTree members who are unfamiliar with the unique characteristics of this area.

If you find or create a WikiTree profile for a person listed here, please add the link to this list! Where there is no link, the first step is to see if you can find an existing profile, to source it and connect it, and add the link to this page. If you can’t find an existing profile, you can create a nice complete one with sources and a full biography for each of these gateway ancestors.

The 1881 Census of Canada is the first comprehensive listing of PEI's population under British rule. The list below simply links to existing WikiTree profiles for some of the first who came to St. Johns Island, and then Prince Edward Island under British rule, starting in the 1760's.

If you find or create another such family, please don't hesitate to add it to the list! They are shown alphabetically by family name under three broad headings. The headings suggest the type of work that was needed when when this list was created.

Please don't hesitate to improve the profiles, and connect your family to their ancestors. After you complete a profile with sources, biographies, categories, parents, spouses and children, please don't hesitate to move it into the last group, at the bottom of the page. That bottom group, and the PEI Research page may be helpful if you're looking for sources.

How about this family? They lived on Cape Sable Island for ten years from 1763. Their daughter Lydia was born there.

i don't see PEI in their information, but I would definitely categorize them: and. According to Esther Clark Wright, they may have been in Chester first, and Barrington in 1764. Edwin Crowell (https://archive.org/details/historyofbarring00crowuoft/page/446/mode/2up) also explains that Jonathan established the harbour on Cape Sable Island.

Sure, I'll add the category to their profiles. Thanks for the Edwin Crowell link. Can you send me the link to Ester Clark Wright's info? I can't find birth (baptism) info for Lydia. Can you help?
