There are several people in Killoon and nearby townlands with surname Henry and forename Pringle. This page researches that connection.

Killoon is a townland in Ballyclog Parish, County Tyrone, just to the north of Stewartstown. It is in the Cookstown poor law union. Neighbouring townlands where Henrys have been seen include Curglassan and Gortnaskea and Ballyveeny.

Likely descendants

Dorothy Pringle

Swanzy cites Dorothy Pringle as the daughter of:

  • Rev. Robert Pringle M.A. of Caledon, Co. Tyrone and Madden, Co. Armagh, eldest son of John Pringle of Caledon, died intestate with admonition granted to widow on 23 Feb 1779
  • Frances Enery, eldest daughter of William Enery Rev. D.D., Rector of Killshandra, Co. Cavan, b. 1706, d. 20 Feb 1764.

These parents married 20 Dec 1753 having three sons and one daughter, Dorothy. Corroborating this, James Pringle quotes the will for William Pringle (died 1799). I'm not sure how that was obtained, but William left 300 pounds to Dorothy the daughter of Robert.

In Swanzy, it contains the line Dorothy Pringle m. John Henry of Killoon, Co. Tyrone.

I am figuring that the Pringle Henry people of Killoon in the 19th century are descendants of this couple. It would make sense for these farmers to want to retain the name of their "noble" lineage.

John Henry

According to CT we have:

  • "Will of John ROSS of Killoon Parish Ballyclog Co. Tyrone dated 8 Feb 1772 proved in the Perogative court 28th March 1772 ...bequeaths five shillings to son Joseph ROSS, the same to Arthur WHITSETT, to my daughter Sarah ROSS to Margaret TILL, to daughter Mary HENRY and grandson John HENRY (the heir to the real estate)"

With Dorothy's parents marrying 1753 and her mother dying 1764, that gives us a window for her birth. Taking 21-42 as likely age window for Dorothy's children, we can say her children would have been born between about 1774 and 1806.

So one possibility would be that (from the above bulleted list) William Henry, John Alexander Henry and Robert Pringle Henry were all the children of Dorothy; with Adam Pringle Henry being the son of said William; and the ancestry tree's claim of William dying in Australia being incorrect.

Other records

Gravestone Inscriptions

At Ballyclog Graveyard Inscriptions there is Pringle Henry, and also a John Henry died late 18th century that needs unpacking.

Other Pringle Henrys that may or may not be connected

In the 1901 census for Belfast there is a Jean Pringle Henry with a Robert.
