Progress Reports

Beside your name below, please keep track of what you're currently working on for the Profile Improvement Project. This is both for your own reference, and to aid collaboration amongst the project participants. If you are going to be temporarily inactive in the project (eg. on vacation), please note that here. Thanks!

Please note: This list is in alphabetical order. Please insert your own information in alphabetical order according to your surname as displayed. (Also, please consider dating your entry.)

  • Darrell Abbey - I am working on cleaning up my Gedcom files and looking for standards in writing biographies. I would be happy to help where ever needed.
  • Marty Acks - Trying to cleanup gedcom crud and source the Porterfield surnames (200+) and other Scottish surnames. This lead me into Dal Riada and old Scottish and Irish royalty. Did hundreds of merges in this area. The area was ripe for duplicate elimination.
  • Leigh Adams - I am currently working on the profiles within my watchlist which are part of my The Irish Settlement mini-project, cleaning them up, and adding biographies and sources. The majority of these profiles are part of the Irish Roots project as well.
  • Marj Adams - If I come across it, I do it. Working mainly on Greens (who could possibly be my husband's line where we have a wall at 1820 in OH). I check my Wiki Genealogy Feed daily and almost always find profiles to improve. Also do Adams, my maiden name, when it appears (often) on the suggestion pages.
  • Thom Anderson - maiden voyage
  • Roland Arsenault - writing tools to help find profiles needing attention.
  • Anne B - I just keep finding profiles and whole families that need help, everywhere I turn. Doing double duty, I spend a lot of my time improving Puritan Great Migration profiles, Founders of Hartford and the Signers of the New Haven Covenant plus there wives and children. I'm also working on my ancestors who are already present on Wikitree. Sep. 2017
  • Gerald Baraboo de Barbeau dit Boisdore - I am studying the WikiTree rules, style and standards for profile protocol. I have finished my first goals to implement the WikiTree protocols. I am continuing to improve profiles within my watch list. I am improving merges and using our protocols when helping other profiles find sources. I have finished adding sources to all my gedcom profiles. I have sourced more then 400 unsourced profiles during October. I have corrected all d b errors on the 1783 profiles I have the privilege to take care of. Baraboo-1 15:28, 24 October 2016 (EDT)

  • Filip Beunis - I am working mostly on adding (primary) sources for profiles related to Belgium.
  • Liat Boucher - I've been cleaning up messy profiles whenever I come across them, mostly by adding inline citations and paring down copy-pasted bios. I also add a brief biography when I find profiles that are completely empty, even if it's just a date of death and burial information. I mostly focus on profiles connected to Maine; lately I've been editing a lot of Chutes, Mayberrys, Libbys, Larrabees, Foggs, Harmons, and Quinbys.
  • Tom Bredehoft - Since completing the entering of the Pettibone Registry, I've been merging (and cleaning up) random merges from the 'ready to be merged' pile. Also rejecting some of same and reducing my overly-large watch list. (30 Sep 2015)

  • Joelle Colville-Hanson Hello there. I keep finding ways to improve my own watchlist, going back to profiles I did earlier and adding census sources for example. For the Civil War Project, I like go through the large category and try to put them in their specific regiments if I can, and also beef up the profile while I'm there if I can. I like to use a narrative style. I have a subscription to Geneology bank so I use obituaries when they are available. I'm also on the Illinois history project so again, when I go through Winnebago County (My area of study) category I try to beef up the profiles. I'm also making a cemetery free space Gulford-Union Cemetery and making sure everyone buried there as a nice biography and well sourced profile.

If needed Merges are done. I have been updating the Thornton line. I have just finished James Hamilton Thornton-5688 and wife along with their 10 children and their families. I have followed my Thornton all the way back, along with maternal lines and family’’s. Adding new sources and redoing biography's.

  • Maryann Hurt - adding sources and formatting bios following current style guide.
  • David James - Like Marj Adams, "when I see it, I do it." Mostly working with Washington County, Maine profiles, transfering my research to WikiTree. • Have almost completed William Murphy have some more resourcing and compilations to create.
    • Created Biography for Ida (Murphy) Dobyns - profile ready for review.
    • Sourcing and compiling research notes and vitals on Lucinda (Leftwich) Murphy
  • Jennifer Jordan I’m currently working on cleanup of my Gedcom files, thankfully I didn’t dump too many. I’m also working with the Quaker Project on correctly categorizing Monthly Meetings. While in these Quaker profiles I’m adding sources and indicating maintenance categories if needed. In my spare time, I’m learning all I can about proper usage of Wikitree Style Conventions as they apply to Biographies, Profiles, Citations, DNA Confirmation...still a Newt with a lot to learn!
  • Susan Keil - I certainly contribute to profile improvement as often as possible. I originally joined the Profiles Project at the indirect suggestion from a WT Leader while working on Unknowns. I still tackle those but more easily perform general clean up and sourcing (as opposed to re/writing biographies). Recently I've become interested in the Anthony surname as I appreciate Susan B Anthony and randomly came across a profile of a woman (Elizabeth S Anthony) who's obituary said she was a cousin to her. Since Elizabeth's surname was Anthony, that didn't really make sense. As I tried to make this connection, I discovered the "cousins" were really Elizabeth S Cole's spouse Benjamin Anthony and Susan B Anthony. One thing led to another and I found myself in the confusion/conflation/contradictory scene descending from William Anthony of Cologne, Germany who relocated to London sometime in the latter half of the 1400s. At the moment I'm hoping my work on the Anthony line may be the arena where I can contribute adequately to make my first application attempt to become pre-1500 certified.

  • P Kreutzer I try to improve profiles that haven't had anything done to them. Also, try to find duplicates to merge, and connect.

  • Cindy Williams Lesure - From my anniversaries list, since I try to post cousins, etc birthdays on Facebook, I work each of the birthdays and wedding anniversaries to try to improve all the profiles in my watchlist. I go through each of them to make sure I gather all the sources possible and include them and from those sources add as much of the information as I can. I love doing it, but it is exhausting sometimes!  :-)

  • Steff Mandarino - when I participate in weekly data doctor challenges I look at the entire profile and fix everything that I can, including adding sources and citing them in the bio. This means a lower number of challenge errors fixed, but more overall improvement in individual profiles. It's pretty much how I approach any profiles I come across as a coordinator for the Louisiana project, category liason for the Acadian project, and member of the profile improvement team for the Black heritage project. My hope is that profile managers will be inspired to both add to what has been done and use the improved profile as a model for their own watchlists, much as I was inspired early on by Vickie Norman!
  • Carolyn Martin - I am working as a sourcerer and data doctor. I spend most of my time sourcing and correcting data errors, sometimes in the weekly and/or monthly challenges, sometimes just own my own. I also started writing biographies for profiles on the needs biographies lists. I also work on the Bahamas Project adding profiles and sources for people who were born. married or died in the Bahamas. I also love to add profiles for spouses, children, or other relatives to a profile I may am working on. I go through my own watchlist from time to time to expand biographies with more detailed information and/or more sources.
  • BK McDonald - Interested in improving profiles if I can help, but am also interested in making wikitree more open. I would rather have someone add a daughter or second husband to one of my relatives and be wrong than for them to say, "screw it, I will just make a duplicate." I guess the reason for the restrictions is in how irreversible some merges are, but I believe fewer padlocks is an important goal.
  • Tamara Miles -- Among other things, I am working on the Briscoe profiles in my family. Today, I have shared a letter from Mary Lou Briscoe, my great-grandmother, to my grandmother, Dollie Jeanette Hyatt Moon. I have recently updated the profile of Mary Lou's father, John Jasper "Burle" Briscoe, an interesting character who consecutively married three sisters. There are also family legends and rumors about Native American ancestry in this line, but I have not yet found firm evidence for this, so that's something on my mind. Burle Briscoe's mother, Winnie T. Bowman Briscoe, has been identified with a variety of names around Ancestry.com, so I'm trying to clear that up, but there's more to be done. She has been described as Native American, and her portrait does show unique characteristics, but I don't know anything for sure. I would like to write more about her husband, Martin Van Buren Briscoe, who was a blacksmith. This family lived in the Arab, Marshall County, Alabama area. There are some incorrect profiles for Martin Van Buren Briscoe on Ancestry --- two hundred years off base, for example.

(The initial raw imports are not pretty!) I also work on Louisiana profiles in general as part of the Louisiana Project. My current long-term goal is to identify all unsourced Louisiana profiles with appropriate categories in preparation for the annual Source-a-thons. There are thousands of them, and it will take a massive collaboration effort to get them all sourced!

  • Robin Shaules - After being in the project for six months, I'm continuing to work on cleaning up those on my Watchlist. I'm happy to say that I've made a successful journey through the Voyager program and have now moved on to become a Voyager Guide assisting others on their Voyager journeys.

  • Bea Wijma - Still working on sourcing and improving profiles (for the Dutch Roots and other projects) , trying to find names for the many Dutch and other Unknowns, cleaning up gedcom or merged ones, cleaning up and straightening out very long , many times merged ones for different projects and so on. Also adopting abandoned Gedcom ones for the project so these will get some attention soon as well, working on my own and the projects watchlist . So might take some time but we'll get there ! :P
  • Williams-81019 - I recently joined Wikitree and I decided to jump right in and I have joined a few projects because I feel it will be the best way to gain some experience in collaborating with others. I think it is a great way to improve my skills. However, I just hope I haven't bitten off more than I can chew because at times, it can be a little overwhelming. So, please be patient with me while I am going through what I have identified as my "on-the-job" training phase. I just know as each day I get better, so will the profiles I have chosen to manage. I believe with improvement in my own personal Wikitree skills, it will eventually benefit Wikitree as well since it will contribute to our profiles' improvement. As such, I have seen some profiles on my personal watch-list which also need improvement. So, I have decided I am going to prioritize those profiles and I will be working on dividing them into smaller groups in order to avoid being so overwhelmed and I can be more focused on the tasks at hand. The first group I have decided to work on are my veteran ancestors. Currently, I just completed the profile for my grandfather who was a World War II veteran. I chose him as my first profile to be reviewed because I want his profile to be the best it can be and I am anxiously awaiting for its review and all the suggestions and corrections that come along with it. I know we're all volunteers and I value everyone's time, especially the input provided by others. Consequently, I was wondering if there is another project on Wikitree where anyone can "occasionally" submit certain profiles to "reviewers" in order to improve our skills as well as our profiles. Maybe there could be a sticker showing a certain profile was "reviewed" or "review requested" at the request of the profile manager in order to improve the quality of the profile which is what this project is all about. In fact, maybe there could be two stickers assigned for reviewed profiles. The first sticker would be one that the profile manager has voluntarily placed on the profile page in question to show that a review has been requested and and after it has been reviewed the sticker can be upgraded to show the profile is in compliance. I am not looking for any merit stickers. For example, I would just like to know that a profile I manage is in compliance with Wikitree's standards and this "compliance" sticker is only issued after a profile manager has initiated a request for a review for a certain profile. I don't want to open a "can of worms" and waste all the protein with this suggestion, I just think it would be a great way to contribute to the improvement of our profiles. The reason I think this "compliance-requested/reviewed" sticker should only be requested at the profiles manger's request is because, if it became a merit sticker with certain levels to achieve, I really think it could turn into a mess. So, I think a compliance-reviewed sticker that is only issued upon request could help a lot of us who are new to this program. The sticker doesn't have to be anything fancy. Perhaps, just a graphic similar to a check-mark emoji would suffice with the name of the reviewer and the date it was reviewed. Once again, I don't think the sticker would reflect any status other than the profile is considered to be in compliance and it just means that someone other than the profile manager who is part of a team of reviewers has reviewed the profile only after it has been requested. I understand we are all volunteers and I value everyone's time. That is why I used the word occasionally because I don't want to take up too much of anyone's time and there would obviously be a limit placed on how many reviews can be requested. However, since the purpose of this project would be to focus on improving the skills of new Wikitree participants, there may be a limit associated with how how long someone has been a participant with Wikitree. I would appreciate anyone's thoughts on this. So, please feel free to contact me through the message system. I am excited to be a part of this team. Thank you.
