Draft text for proposed revised process for closed account review (the last step in the Conflict Escalation process). This draft is meant as a significant change to the existing process, allowing possible member reinstatement after full disclosure of WikiTree case documentation, open discussion on the G2G forum, and deliberation by a panel of ordinary members.

For more information, and to comment on this proposal, please see G2G Proposal question.

Public Review of Account Closures

If you have your account closed you can request a public review.

Requesting a public review is something like a Freedom of Information request. It's a way for you and others to discover whether your case was handled fairly.

Mentoring and mediation is done privately to protect the individuals involved and prevent conflicts from escalating unnecessarily. See Conflict Privacy. By requesting a public review, you can have everything about your case made public. Files will not be shown to you privately. They will be opened up for everyone to see.

In a public review, we post the documentation on G2G, with sensitive details and information about others removed. Only your name will be included. In certain cases, such as length or possible offense to some readers, we may post the documentation in a free-space page and link that to a brief description which we post on G2G.

In order to enable others to discover whether your case was handled fairly, you will be expected to provide a reply for inclusion in the G2G thread. We will provide you an advance copy of our documentation. Your reply makes up a crucial part of the public review process, so your request for review is considered incomplete until you provide the reply or a written statement that you decline to reply. We will not post the G2G question until your request is complete as just described. Other members may also comment on it, and if they do, you may reply to them. Because you are unable to post directly to G2G through your closed account, please e-mail your reply and responses to WikiTree Admin or to your Designated Intermediary (see below). We will post your reply verbatim if possible, but we reserve the right to edit your reply to protect the privacy of other members and third parties.

Mentors, Mediators, and Team Members will not reply publicly or privately about mentoring or mediation anywhere other than the G2G review thread. If someone wants to discuss the case, e.g. on a social network or via email, we will point to the review thread and comment there if necessary.

Member Review Panel

When there has been adequate discussion of the case (as indicated by seven days of inactivity) a panel of WikiTree members will decide whether you should have your account re-opened, and under what conditions. [Policy on panel selection to be developed later, if this proposal receives broad support; intent is that a group of WikiTree members who are in good standing but are not part of Leadership will comprise the panel.] Panel discussions will take place in private, via e-mail or other means agreed upon by the panel. The panel will report its findings on the G2G forum.

Designated Intermediary

As an alternative to responding through WikiTree Admin, you may designate one member to post your reply and discussion responses on your behalf. You must notify us in advance of your choice of Designated Intermediary, and you may replace your Designated Intermediary only with our prior approval. To avoid confusion, all Designated Intermediary posts on your behalf must begin with “Posted on behalf of [your name].” We agree not to take any action under the Conflict Escalation process against your Designated Intermediary, for posts made and properly identified as such.

Note that some Terms of Service violations and other cases with legal implications may not be handled in the same way as other community problems.
