Addt'l Topic Notes: In the case of Quaker records, births, baptisms, and marriages were often also registered with Dutch Ref. Church and/or Province of New York (marriage by license), but not always. This was done by many early Quakers to avoid legal disputes regarding the authenticity of marriages and legitimate births. By the early to mid-1800s, many Quakers gave this practice up and kept all records within the meeting attended. Some Quakers did not attend meetings within the monthly framework, worshipping in their homes instead, where no records were kept.
