General Paul Quattlebaum, Sr.

From Papers stored at Clemson University[1] Abstract: The Quattlebaums were German Protestant pioneers who helped settle the "Dutch Fork" area of South Carolina (present Lexington and Newberry Counties) in the 1760's. The family has provided South Carolina with political leaders, engineers, soldiers, teachers, farmers, and executives for more than 200 years. Four generations of the Quattlebaum family are represented in this collection. The Quattlebaum Papers consist primarily of correspondence, reports, and research relating to Paul Quattlebaum's career as a utility executive, his service as a state senator from Horry County, and his activity as a genealogist and historian. Also included in this collection are a group of letters and documents from General Paul Quattlebaum related primarily to family matters, a series of business records and correspondence from (his son) Conway attorney Cephas Perry Quattlebaum and material from (another son) Paul Quattlebaum Jr. related to his service on the Clemson Board of Trustees. The Quattlebaum Papers hold research potential in the areas of twentieth-century South Carolina politics, Peedee area and Horry County history, and South Carolina genealogy.

Paul Jones Quattlebaum, Jr. Son of General Paul Quattlebaum and Sarah Caroline (Jones). Born: May 19, 1836. Paul Jones was commissioned an officer and entered the Civil War as a Major in Company S, Texas 5th Infantry Regiment. Paul Jr. Died 1883 in Columbus, Muscogee, GA

I would love to see some cleanup on the very earliest Quattlebaums born to Petter (Quattlebaum-100) and Anna Maria (Herkendall-1 and VonDerHutte-2, merge proposed). There are no less than 5 variations on the name of Johann/Johannes Petter/Peter (Quattlebaum-85, Quattlebaum-196, Quattlebaum-165, Quattlebaum-200 and Quattlebaum-77) born between 1731 and 1736 and died between 1748 and 1813. I think I have a memory of reading somewhere that these may represent a couple of their children, but surely some consolidation and merging is in order. Quattlebaum-196 has minimal info and seems unreliable in claiming death in Texas. Q-85 and Q-77 at least have matching death info, but Q-85 shows a birth location of Bridgewater, Somerset, New Jersey that seems unlikely. Q-200 and Q-165 need research.
