- The conflict known as King Philip’s War began in earnest on 24 June 1675, when warriors of the Wampanoag/Pokanoket tribe led by Philip attacked the English settlement at Swansea on the western frontier of the Plymouth Colony.[1] What followed was a genocidal conflict that was arguably the bloodiest war in American history.[2]
