Research:
Family in Shenandoah Valley
- Margaret Ann (Helms) McLaughlin (1827-1907)
- Jane (McGee) Henderson (1770-1835), Parents married in Augusta County 20 July 1765. Parents were Loyalists.
- John Henry McLaughlin (1785-1840)
- Barbara (Louderback) Haney (1761-1843) was apparently born in Shenandoah County and was residing in Rockingham County at the time her father prepared his will.
McLaughlins of early Virginia:
- The McLaughlins in Early Virginia project
- Charles McLaughlin (1720-1792) had three sons: John, Charles and William, all of whom were born In Bedford county, Virginia. Charles Sr is purportedly a son of James McLaughlin and reputed brother of John Hugh McLaughlin. I find the names interesting. Are we descended from that line rather than John Hugh?
- Hugh Arthur McLaughlin (1932-2004). 20th Century McLaughlin whose grandfather was a Hugh, and his grandfather was a Hugh and possibly his grandfather was a Hugh. Lived in Staunton, VA. Profile added 6 Dec 2021.
- Rachel Virginia (McLaughlin) Wolfe (1797-1858). Added research notes: her birthplace and parentage are inconsistent. May be daughter of John McLaughlin (1764-1838). Conflated with a marriage record of a different Rachel.
- Most of the children of John McLaughlin (1764-1838) are said to have been born in West Virginia before it was broken off from Virginia. Those need to be corrected.
- May be conflated with another John McLaughlin of Pocahontas County. Much information about him in Historical sketches of Pocahontas County, West Virginia by Price, William T. (William Thomas), 1830-1921, pages 315-327.
- Robert McLaughlin (abt.1812-abt.1830) is claimed to be a child of John and Anne (Wiley) McLaughlin, and, according to McLaughlin's Valley's author, they did have a son Robert. But his record was tangled up with a wife from New Brunswick. Need to compare the McLaughlin's Valley list if John and Anne's children with what is in WikiTree.
- Margaret (McLaughlin) Richey (1810-1882) was reportedly born in Ohio in 1810. Where did her family come from?
- Hugh McGlaughlin (abt.1768-) and the original McGlaughlin-74 may have been brothers whose offspring settled Pocahontas County.
- John McLaughlin (1764-1838) conflates two individuals. See his bio. Many details.
- The McGlaughlin Family : Early Settlers of Meigs, Vinton, and Athens Counties, Ohio Stmnt.Resp. by Barbara Snyder Colton, 1941-. Family history and genealogical information about the descendants of James MCGLAUGHLIN who was born ca. 1750 in Ireland. He married WEISE (given name unknown) sometime prior to the year 1777. They immigrated to America, settled in Virginia and became the parents of three sons and six daughters. Descendants lived in Ohio, Missouri, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Texas, Washington, California and elsewhere. Includes information on the COTTRILL, HENNESS, JORDAN, RAY, SNYDER and VANDIVER families.
