Registres paroissiaux Saint-François-Xavier

The first registers of the parish of Saint-François-Xavier de Caughnawaga (also known as Sault-Saint-Louis and Réserve Autochtone Kanahwake), contain important information on the first inhabitants of Châteauguay who only had their own registers in 1736.

Here will be listed all the baptisms, marriages and burials that took place in Caughnawaga for the residents of Châteauguay that are not already transcribed in their Registers. Indeed, the priest L. Nau of the Compagnie de Jésus transcribed several acts which had been performed in Sault-Saint-Louis, into the Châteauguay register. They will be classified by year (see index at the end of this page).

All the records are in French, with the exception of only a handful that were written in English. For ease of use, the records will not be transcribed in their totality, only the pertinent information will be extracted.

As a rule of thumb, we will be extracting the following information:
