The goal of this project is to ...

Right now this project just has one member, me. I am Diane Styma.

Here are some of the tasks that I think need to be done. I'll be working on them, and could use your help.

  • find out where people from Poland/ Ukraine came into the USA in 1880
  • trace why michigan and chicago were popular places for Styma
  • ponder family unions

Will you join me? Please post a comment here on this page, in G2G using the project tag, or send me a private message. Thanks!

GAZDA Deceased Name: Theresa Styma Gazda, nee Samborski --Theresa Styma Gazda, nee Samborski, beloved wife of Stanley, fond mother of Geraldine Styma, and Edward, dear sister of Mrs. Josephine Ostrowski, and the late Michael Rogus, Anna Mowinski, Catherine Luedtke, Mary Helander. Funeral Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 9:15 a.m., from funeral home, 4255-57 W. Division street, to St. Stanislaus Kostka church. Interment St. Adalbert's cemetery. ALbany 2-3600.

My Recollection (diane) The few things I know about my "grandma" is that she was married to Joseph Styma first, and divorced him. He was a gas truck driver. He smelled of gasoline. His sister passed in Florida, and there is some hints that he moved and died there too. My mom, Geraldine was raised by her grandmother, a woman who spoke Polish mostly. My Uncle (Edward) was raised by Theresa's sister, Catherine and her husband, Al Luedtke. Theresa left, and came back later. She bleached her face white with make up or skin whitening. She blackened her hair with black. Beauty must have been very important to her. She passed of mouth cancer. My theory is that her make up caused skin cancer. My uncle used to tell me at the end Theresa had 10-20 glasses and cups on the counter. All she did was drink liquids and not wash the glasses. He volunteered to wash them for her. It is possible she got the cancer from an irritation from dentures but I have less proof of that. Uncle would talk to Stanley Gazda, her second husband like they were friends. DIANE L. STYMA
