Hypothesis

Leon Sejda (1870-1935) immigrated in 1902 and reported he was going to family in Wethersfield, CT. By 1909, however, he moved to Hammond, IN and was working for the Standard Steel Car Company . In 1911, his wife immigrated.

The fact that Kammila did not join him until 1911 may have meant that he could not afford to bring her over until then, so it is possible that Leon was unemployed or working menial jobs in that time.

There may be a link to the Standard Steel Car Company here. There are some Sejda surnames in the records of the company in Butler, PA. Perhaps he had siblings there that connected him with a job in Indiana. Update 19 Jan 2021:' A review of those cards indicate they are not related, see below

I note that his 1910 census entery[1] has him living with a family whose 3 year old was born in PA and the newborn in IN, providing some support to the hypothesis.

Ideas for research:

  1. Locate Leon in Connecticut
  2. Locate Sejda's that were working for Standard Steel Car Company in PA and determine if they are related
  3. Do more general research in the 1902-1909 timeframe for Leon
