Rhode Island Public Notary and Land Records
At the Rhode Island State Archives is housed an eight volume set of manuscript books containing early land records and additional notarial records. The state archives catalog refers to them as "Public Notary and Land Records".
Because the volumes themselves are unique and hard to access, this page was created with the assumption that most references to these volumes will be to abstracts and tables of contents that were published elsewhere.
Abstracts
Volume 1 was abstracted by Dorothy Worthington and published in a separate widely available volume called Rhode Island Land Evidences
Selected abstracts from Volumes 1 and 2 were published in Newport Historical Magazine, viz.
- Selections from Volumes 1 and 2: No.1 Vol. 3 (1882) Pages 25--32
- Selections from Volume 1: No.2 Vol. 3 (1882) Pages 97--100
Tables of Contents
Tables of contents are less detailed than abstracts, containing the names of the main parties, the date of the record, and names of witnesses. Tables of contents of all eight volumes are available on the State Archives website:
Tables of contents for Volumes 2 and 3 were separately published in a series of articles in Rhode Island Roots (RIR hereafter):
- Volume 2: RIR 13 (1987) Pages 27--33, then Pages 55--59, then Pages 81--87
- Volume 3: RIR 14 (1988) Pages 18--19, then Pages 51-55, then Pages 85--89, then Pages 109--110
