This is the family Bible for the Robert Moses Randles and Matilda D. Cossey family. Robert and Matilda were born in Dallas County, MO and neighboring Laclede County, spending their almost their entire lives there or in nearby Greene County. The bible was passed down through the family and is currently in my possession, Michael Scott Kerstetter.

It is an elaborate, study-like publication with parallel King James and Revised New Testament translations, marginal references and readings, dictionary, and other study aids. There is no standard dated copyright page, rather a testimonial dated December 1881 which will have to serve as the copyright date.
Due to many years of casual handling and indifferent storage, by the time it reached me, it was deteriorating badly with the leather spine hinges in particular turning to dust. So I had it professionally rebound, incorporating the original front, spine and rear boards as much as possible and resewing the page block. It is now archivally stored to minimize any future deterioration.

- This Certifies that Robert M. Randles and Matilda D. Cossey were united by me in the Holy Bonds of Matrimony at Tho's Cosseys on the 30th day of January in the year of our Lord 1879. In Presence of C. C. Edmisson, Laura Hosting (sp?). Signed J. P. Alsuh (sp?), M. G.

- Observations:
- The pre-printed year begins "188" but was corrected to "1879" by hand. This suggests that this page was filled out after the event in question rather than at the time of. However, it is likely that the bible was purchased shortly into the 1880's and that at least the initial entries were made by Robert and Matilda.
