Location: North Ronaldsay, Orkney, Scotland
Rue is a house on the island of North Ronaldsay in East North Yard townland, 500m east of Senness. The croft may be named after the nearby Rue Geo, which may be derived from Gaelic Rudha, which means a cape or point.[1]
The house did not feature in the Poll Tax returns of 1693. In the late 1700s, the sheepdyke was extended from a point west of Scotigar Loch further east, leading to the establishment of Rue and its nearby croft of Vincoin from the older croft of Scottiegar. [2]
The listing for "Rue" in British Listed Buildings states that the current building was erected in the "Late 18th to early 19th century".[3] It may have been built by William Tulloch,who was living at Rue in 1841, given his brother Thomas was living in Scottiegar at that time.
