About the Project
The Rulkens Name Study project serves as a collaborative platform to collect information on the Rulkens name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join the study to help make it a valuable reference point for other genealogists who are researching or have an interest in the Rulkens name.
As a One Name Study, this project is not limited to persons who are related biologically. Individual studies can be used to branch out the research into specific methods and areas of interest, such as geographically (England Rulkens's), by time period (18th Century Rulkens's), or by topic (Rulkens DNA, Rulkens Occupations, Rulkens Statistics). These studies may also include a number of family branches which have no immediate link with each other. Some researchers may even be motivated to go beyond the profile identification and research stage to compile fully sourced, single-family histories of some of the families they discover through this name study project.

Origin
Rulkens seems to be a patronymic for the first name Roel.[1]
The earliest records of Rulkens appears to be the christening registration of Jacobus Rulkens in Vlodrop on 05 Jul 1653.[2]
There were various spellings of this surname. People with variations of this surname were mostly located in Limburg, Netherlands with concentrations around Vlodrop and around Linne/Maasbracht. This study is an attempt to find and document these families from the 17th to the 20th century. A further objective is to identify, where possible, how these various families connect.
