Sago is a small community located about six miles from the Upshur County seat of Buckhannon. The Buckhannon River runs nearby.

History

The first known settler to Sago was Zedekiah Morgan who traveled to the area from his home in Newtown, Connecticut.

Sago is the site of the 2006 Sago Mine Disaster. An explosion and collapse trapped 13 mine workers for two days. There was just 1 survivor of the collapse.
