About this Project
The Sainsbury Name Study project serves as a collaborative platform to collect information on the Sainsbury name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join the study to help make it a valuable reference point for other genealogists who are researching or have an interest in the Sainsbury name.
As a One Name Study, this project is not limited to persons who are related biologically. Individual studies can be used to branch out the research into specific methods and areas of interest, such as geographically (England Sainsbury's), by time period (18th Century Sainsbury's), or by topic (Sainsbury DNA, Sainsbury Occupations, Sainsbury Statistics). These studies may also include a number of family branches which have no immediate link with each other. Some researchers may even be motivated to go beyond the profile identification and research stage to compile fully sourced, single-family histories of some of the families they discover through this name study project.

Usage of Stickers and Categories
Until the Sainsbury Name develops a suitable outline on Wikitree, the Name Study sticker and category remain the only markers for Sainsbury. However, these should not be used for every Sainsbury and associated profiles, as not every Sainsbury profile needs be in the study at any given time. Thus, below are suggested guidance by this Sainsbury Name Study only for usage of the sticker and category, such guidance is not given by Wikitree itself, that I can find. This guidance can be amended, from time to time.
The Sainsbury Name Study Category should be added as a category:
- A) For all Sainsbury Name Study Team members.
- B) Adds this surname as a start point or end point to a lineage tree (and thus needs attention).
- C) If there is no profile manager.
- D) If the profile has a Research Box.
- E) Is under active research by Sainsbury Name Study.
Sainsbury Name Study Sticker usage guidance
- A) Serves to highlight an important fact about a person as he/she applies to the study of the name in the context of Wikitree, or otherwise.
- B) Adds this surname as a start point or end point to a lineage tree (and thus needs attention).
- C) Serves as a branching outwards or inwards of the surname.
- D) If there is an isolated no profile manager, or the head of a lineage of no profile managers.
- E) If the profile has a Research Box.
- F) Is under active research by a project or Sainsbury Name Study.
If you come across a Sainsbury profile with any of these characteristics, feel free to add either or both the sticker or the category.

Related Surnames and Surname Variants
Of the other spellings found easily on-line, Sansbery, Sainsburry, Samtsbry and Samsburey seem to be just temporary mis-spellings. Sandbury seems to be only a name of Sandbury Moor, West Dorset, UK. Samsbury seems to be a mis-spelling in America and the one usage found on Wikitree Gospatrick de Samsbury is traceable to perhaps an intentional mis-spelling to denote the "first known Lord of this Manor [of Samlesbury]".
