The Voyage of the Royal Mail ship Saldanha in 1856
Departed: Liverpool on 5th of June 1856 Arrived: Port Phillip Bay on 16th of September 1856 Master: Captain W. H. Watts
One of the "Black Ball" line of Australian packets contracted to bring mail and news in a timely and reliable manner from England to Australia and return. For this voyage she also carried a full cargo of merchandise, and about 500 passengers.
It's unusually long journey from Liverpool to Melbourne was marred by an outbreak of scarlet fever which caused it to be placed in quarantine upon arrival.
