and adding this one:
- Squire "Negro Boy Squire" (valued at $1050 when bequeathed to JE Holland?) This Squire was sold to John H Norris on Feb 5, 1858 in a sheriff's sale. Apparently Dr WT Holland was not a great farmer; he was primarily a Physician and was later drafted to Winchester in the war. The writer possesses a letter that mentions he seems to have been "against" slavery, so for him to marry into a plantation family and eventually own about 12 slaves, seems increasingly odd.
Squire is listed by name in the sale documents, but not on the inventory. So he could be one of the unnamed children above or some other person. Research continues on Squire; about three men named Squire lived in the area at the same time.
