Sanders, Alison and Collateral Families

Sanders, W. R. Genealogy of the Sanders, Alison, and Collateral Families of Sullivan & Washington Counties Tennessee. Self-Published. Printed September, 1972

Background

W. R. "Bill" Sanders was the son of John Sanders and Elizabeth Alison.

I remember visiting Uncle Bill (actually my Grandmother’s Uncle) and Aunt Pearl with my parents and grandparents soon after his book had been printed. I of course wasn’t extremely interested in the books at the time, but I do remember boxes and boxes of books. My grandmother was picking up her copy for $5. For whatever reason, my parents did not purchase a copy. My mother now has my Grandmother’s copy and I bought a copy from a Used Book Dealer by mail order for $100 about forty years later.

The book contains lots of great stories, quite a bit of accurate information, and some not so accurate - or possibly incomplete compared to the information now readily available.

Uncle Bill apparently was reluctant to include a write up on himself as he states on page 34, instead my Uncle Clifford (my Grandmother’s older brother) wrote a short biography. I remember my surprise when I realized he didn’t even mention Aunt Pearl, wife of Uncle Bill.
