The MV Conception was a charter dive boat that sank off Santa Cruz Island on September 9, 2019 at approximately 3am. The boat was anchored overnight at Platts Harbor, a small undeveloped bay on the north shore of the island.
There were 39 people aboard, and only 5 survived. 33 passengers and 1 crew member that were sleeping below deck died. The 5 crew members that survived were on the top deck. The fire blocked the exits and they could not get below to save anyone.
