In the Name of God Amen—I Sarah A Beverley of the County of Henderson and State of Kentucky being of sound mind & disposing memory, do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner & form following Towit—
It is my will and desire that all my Just Debts & funeral expenses be first paid--
I give bequeath and devise my house & lot of ground near the Town of Henderson (my present residence) and also all my household and Kitchen furniture to my Daughter Lucy M Thornton to her & heirs forever. I give & devise to my Grand daughter Cornelia Beverley Daughter of my son William my Negro man Addison.
I give & devise to my Grand daughter Bettie, Daughter of my son Robert my Negro girl named Rosanna—I give & devise to my Grand son Alexander youngest son of my son Robert my negro Boy named Ben. It is my will and desire that my Daughter Lucy M Thornton & my Daughter in law Sarah P. Beverley each have a mourning breast pin to Cost not less than Fifty Dollars. And that my Grand daughter Reubena Thornton, Bettie Beverley & Cornelia Beverley each have a handsome Ring and that my niece Lucy Ann Posey have a handsome Breast pin or Ring as she may choose, all to be paid for out of the Funds of my Estate.
It is my will and desire that a monument be erected to the memory of my son Thomas A Beverley, and also a monument to the memory of my son in law Dr. C. J. Thornton to be paid for out of the funds of my Estate--
I give to my sons Robert G. & William P. Beverley a negro woman named Julia Ann & her child, which said Negro woman formerly belonged to them, and which they gave up to me. It is my will and desire that the said woman Julia Ann & her increase be equally divided between my said sons Robert & William--
I give and bequeath to my son Henry M Beverley the sum of Three hundred Dollars in money to be paid out of any balance that may remain after the payment of my Debts--
Any other Slaves or property of any description that I may die possessed of, not mentioned nor otherwise disposed of by this will, I give to my three sons Robert, William and Henry to be equally divided among them—All the money, cash notes, or Debts due, and belonging to my Estate, which may be remaining after the payment of my Just Debts and the legacies herein above mentioned, I give and bequeath to my daughter Lucy M Thornton, and to her heirs forever—I hereby appoint my son Robert G. Beverley Executor of this my last Will and Testament, hereby revoking all other wills or Codicils by me heretofore made & It is my wish & desire that my said son Robert shall be required to give Security as such Executor. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed my seal this the 2nd day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand, Eight hundred & fifty—I give and bequeath to my grand Daughter Reubena Thornton a negro girl Lizzy—In Connection with my son Robert I leave John B. This last Will and Testament of Sarah A. Beverley dec’d was proved in open Court according to law, by the oath of Hebe C Preston a subscribing witness thereto, and the handwriting of Lucy A Posey (the other subscribing witness) was proved to the satisfaction of the Court, and the said Will ordered to be recorded (E 619) Attest Will D. Allison clk.
